Originality Inspires the Human Spirit and Satisfies the Soul!
As a dining community, St. Louis is unique – almost intuitively, strong support exists for homegrown, original, and independent restaurants. The restaurant scene has the personality and history that breeds strong patronage. Celebrating the food that’s indigenous to the neighborhood is quintessentially what the independent restaurant is all about. Owners and chefs of independent restaurants support local farmers, chat with the regulars, invest in people and real estate and actively participate in and support the community. The independent restaurateurs know that "going out to eat" is much more than simply enjoying a good meal. It really is about going to a place where people know your name.

To be a true independent, homegrown restaurant is to be an active and open participant in the community. At Cardwell’s at the Plaza, we believe that doing what we can to “give back” is not only a responsibility we must share in, but fosters warmth, a real neighborhood sensibility that resonates throughout. Over the years, we have supported such organizations as the March of Dimes, Edgewood Children’s Center, Forest Park Forever, and Foodbank, just to name a few. We encourage friends and family of Cardwell’s to find your community calling and help us support those organizations that ultimately make our world a better, safer, more enjoyable place to live, work and play (and eat).
